The Ploughman by Pompeian Bronze- by Peter Manfredi.   Circa 1921.  Bronze-Clad with “antique glossy bronze – black and green effect” patina. (photos lightened to show detail.)  Measures 4-3/4” high x 6-3/4” wide x 2-5/8” deep.  Weighs 4 lbs. the pair.  Bas-relief of farmer working his field with a single blade plow pulled by an ox and a horse, against a detailed, scenic background.  Designed and copyrighted by Peter Manfredi on August 31, 1921.  Appears in Pompeian’s first catalog  (showing the old P. Mori Brooklyn address) as “The Plow Man #104.  Pompeian shopmark appears on side.  Original felt on bottom. These seldom seen, well-cared-for, 92 year old bookends are in wonderful condition.
