“Lion of Belfort”

Price: $225 / pair

Lion of Belfort – Made in Germany – Circa 1930s.  Weighted gray metal with bronze finish.  Measures 3-1/2” high x 5” wide x 2-1/4” deep.  Weighs 4-1/2 lbs. the pair.  Inscribed on back: Germany EJC 1000.  Original felt on bottoms.  Modeled after the huge monument by celebrated 19th century sculptor, Frederic Bartholdi (architect of the Statue of Liberty in New York). The original monument, (72 ft. x 36 ft.  ) finished in 1880, is carved of red Vosgian sandstone, and sits in front of the castle in Belfort, France.  The bookends are very scarce, beautifully detailed, and in great condition.
