The Sower.  Berks Foundry & Mfg. Co (Berks County, PA).  Circa 1916.  Cast iron with copper flashing.  Petite bookends measuring 4” high x 2-3/4” wide x 1-3/4” deep.  Weighs 2 lbs. the pair.  Shopmark on back.  Bas-relief image shows wonderful definition and detail. Based on an 1850 painting by  Jean-Francois Millet,  his first major masterpiece and the earliest of the iconic trio of paintings that would include The Gleaners and The Angelus.  Original felt on one base, newer felt on the other.  Age-related wear to finish.  Otherwise great condition.
