Listed in Mene’s catalog as Chien Epagneul (Sylphie) No. 69. From Christopher Payne’s Animals in Bronze: “A well cast and vigorous model in a style favored by Moigniez.” Mene (1810-1871) was the most successful and prolific animalier of his day. His work concentrated on giving his animals character and natural appeal, capturing in bronze a moment of the subject’s life in the wild. |
