French Deco Gazelles – Circa 1930s. French Bronze sculpture by Irenee Rochard (1906-1984). Measures 10” high x 21” wide x 6” deep. Weighs about 25 lbs. Rochard, born in Villafranche sur Saone, attended the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris. He is best known for his Art Deco style bronzes from 1931 to 1955. He was one of the first animaliers to sculpt in a highly stylized manner, using a softer line to bring out his animals’ personality, intelligence, gracefulness and gentleness. A rare and beautiful sculpture mounted on old deep-veined marble. Minor age related wear. Otherwise outstanding condition. |
