“Schnauzer”, Marion Bronze – Circa 1922. Bronze Clad. Measures 5-1/2” high x 7” long x 3” deep. Weighs 6 lbs. the pair. Original felt on bottom. No inscription or label. These earliest Marion Bronze bookends are listed in a Pompeian Bronze Catalog, misspelled “Scnautzer #55 with an incorrect illustration of a Doberman bookend. The above dog, most likely from an original P. Mori Galvano Bronze mold was one of the molds acquired by the new startup company, Marion Bronze in 1922. Their earliest bookends had no shopmark, only a MARION BRONZE CO. GALVANO BRONZE label which has long since disappeared. These rare old boys are in stellar condition with stunning 90+ year old patina.
