Circa 1920s

“Sphinx”

Price:  $345 / pr

“SPHINX” , The Armor Bronze Corporation, NYC, Circa 1920s. Bronze-Clad. Monochrome dark bronze finish. Measures 6-1/2” high x 5-1/2” wide x 3” deep.  Weighs 6-1/2 lbs. the pair.  The Great Sphinx of Giza, on the west bank of the Nile River, is, arguably, the oldest, largest, and most famous sculpture in the world. The debate continues about when, how and why it was created. The riddle of the Armor Bronze Sphinx is a lot easier to solve.   The Armor Bronze Corporation label indicates it was made after 1918 when the National Metalizing Co. name was dropped and the new company was formed under the direction of president Francis G. Plant and the management of Ferdinand Bing & Co.’s Successors. Condition is pristine with original felt and 2 labels on bottom.
